Iceland Adventures: Blue Lagoon, Luxury Hotel + Private Lagoon

What a way to begin our adventures. From the moment we arrived in Iceland we knew we did something right by booking a stop over here. The entire country is magical, mystical and incredible.

Hotel Stay + Private Lagoon

While researching and booking this area of the trip I continuously read, time and again, how beautiful the Blue Lagoon is and how it is a must-visit place in Iceland. After reviewing the Blue Lagoon website I then found that they offer overnight stays in their boutique and quite exclusive hotel. At the time there were only 15 rooms (now 35) and access to a private lagoon along with complimentary access to the public lagoon with towels and bathrobes as well as complimentary breakfast. We did the math and decided to book a nights stay here as all the offerings and the beautiful surroundings appeared to match the value.

What you get with your stay (as of September 2015):

  1. Free admittance to the Public Lagoon for 1 day (including towels & bathrobe)
  2. Complimentary access to the Private Lagoon (9am-10pm)
  3. Complimentary breakfast
  4. Complimentary flavoured water, coffee & tea (all day)
  5. One nights stay in a beautiful, exclusive room
  6. Complimentary Wifi

We were not disappointed when we arrived at the Lagoon Hotel; greeted by very friendly staff we were even able to check into our room a bit early. The rooms are simple and stunning, filled with white tones that make it feel air-y, bright and spacious. The floor to ceiling windows are a wonder as you look through them to see incredible lava fields covered in spongy green moss. We stayed in room #15 which I have to say was wonderful. A sneak peak to the left of our deck and you get an instant view of the beautiful private lagoon and gorgeous natural surroundings.

A few more reasons why we loved our stay:

  • The Hotel staff are friendly and always willing to help
  • The Private Lagoon is never busy!
  • There are complimentary floating rings you can use while in the Private Lagoon (that they do not offer in the public one)
  • The rooms are spacious, well decorated with very comfortable beds
  • Complimentary breakfast is delicious with an assortment of offerings including vegan and vegetarian options

  • There is a small ‘cafe’ with snack items available at anytime to purchase
  • You can order pizza to your room if you’re feeling like a night in (My husband did it and said the pizza was delicious)
  • The Silica mud is redily available at the private lagoon and even covers the entire ground inside the lagoon

As we were only on a 4 day stop over we chose to use the free entry to the public lagoon for the morning and early afternoon on our arrival day. The public lagoon is absolutely beautiful….and busy. As soon as we arrived we understood why everyone online said this is a must visit place as the water is truly beautiful, but after leaving our accommodations and private lagoon for the busy and overcrowded public one we immediately realized we’d struck gold with our Lagoon Hotel stay.

The milky blue water of the Lagoon is eye catching and at 100 degrees feels like a real spa experience. Of course we tried the silica mud face masks and swam around with ghostly white faces for about 15 minutes until we rinsed it off in the water. I have to say it really does make your skin feel soft and wonderful; one of the downsides however is the damage it can do to your hair. I personally have thin hair which is more susceptible to damage, so I didn’t love the way the water left my hair feeling. If your concerned, simply tie your hair up in a high bun and try (as best you can) to not get your hair wet. They do also offer an exclusive conditioner that helps to ‘repair’ your hair after to stay in the shower room.

Washing the silica mud off.

The Blue Lagoon Clinic Hotel is fantastic, I can’t say it enough. It’s already on our list of places to revisit. In my personal opinion the public lagoon is still a must see, but if you’re really debating whether you want to see the natural wonder – I would highly highly recommend a stay at the Lagoon Hotel!
